Berkeley County is known for its commercial areas, but the best restaurants are the smaller, homegrown establishments! We’re talking mom and pop restaurants, local spots – the ones that most people miss during their stops around Martinsburg, Falling Waters, and Inwood. There are a lot of REALLY good restaurants in Berkeley County, so let’s try to narrow down to the absolute best restaurants in this part of the Eastern Panhandle.

Offering a range of cuisine options, Berkeley County has several great towns for restaurants in Martinsburg, Inwood, and Falling Waters. Let’s explore the top five places to eat here!
Cafe Del Sol (Martinsburg)
Calling itself a Californian Pizzeria with several regional locations in the four state area, Café Del Sol offers a range of casual Italian and Mexican cuisine with a splash of thin crust pizza and Asian rice bowl. This top restaurant combines simple, classic flavors in modern dinner and lunch dishes and can double as casual dining or an intimate affair. Café Del Sol is not large, but reservations are not normally needed, and they are able to accommodate small parties. The presentation is really nice; the service is consistent; and the prices are moderate in relation to the overall experience. It’s one of the best restaurants in Martinsburg, and it is sure to please all ages.
Kitzie’s Restaurant and Lounge (Falling Waters)
With multiple locations in Berkeley County, Kitzie’s stands out as the best steak and seafood grill in the area, serving lunch and dinner daily. It’s not your typical seafood restaurant though. If you are looking to crack a dozen king crab legs then you will want to keep looking, but Kitzie’s has enough fish, shellfish, and mollusk meals to claim they serve the Eastern Panhandle’s best seafood! They accommodate to more than just seafood lovers though. Kitzie’s serves up delicious steaks, plus their menu offers dishes covering an Italian-American cuisine, sandwiches, burgers, and wings. Catch a drink at the sports bar, dine with friends and family, or meet up on a special date night, all at Kitzie’s Restaurant and Lounge in Spring Mills.
Spice Connexion (Martinsburg)
Indian cuisine at Spice Connexion seems to be from another world! Here’s their secret… deliver traditional, delicious and healthy Indian fare in a modern, innovative menu, using only the freshest of ingredients. It’s simple, and it works! That mix of fresh ingredients and spices creates colorful and flavorful servings, and the best Indian food in the Eastern Panhandle. The menu features traditional Indian meats and dishes plus tandoori breads and biryani rice. It is a cozy restaurant and can get busy at times so plan ahead on weekends.
The Cider Press (Inwood)
Located in Inwood, at the southern end of Berkeley County, The Cider Press restaurant just screams LOCAL, and you realize that as you walk through the farmer’s market it is connected through. Farm-to-table freshness and big servings combine in this country restaurant for a homemade menu that feels like family cooking. The namesake is serviced by regional coffee, ciders, and beers that compliment a menu that features homestyle cooking in an open warehouse setting. It’s great for lunch and dinner and has enough space that tables are typically available without a wait. Appetizer portions can be large so pace yourself and enjoy an entrée at one of the Panhandle’s best home cooking secrets.
Brix 27 (Martinsburg)
It all comes together at Brix 27 in downtown Martinsburg – great ambiance, local ingredients, and a unique menu – creating a fine American dining experience that’s ideal for date night or a few drinks and dinner with close friends. The two-story space feels more like a fancy city restaurant than something you expect to find in West Virginia. The rustic modern décor pairs well with their private selection of fine wines and beautiful meal plating. They serve a nice, simple menu for lunch during the day, but their dinner menu adds several hearty entrées and appetizers. The restaurant has a large social space adjacent to the bar and can accommodate large parties and private events, but the restaurant does get busy during peak hours. A reservation is suggested.
Other Great Restaurants in Berkeley County
Firebox55 (Martinsburg)
If you are looking for the best neighborhood barbeque, then you will find Firebox55 is going to have it all covered with delicious craft sandwiches, seasonal and regional beers, and chicken, beef and pork barbeque with several different sauces to cover all preferences. There is a large bar with several televisions, and an outdoor patio area with umbrella covered picnic tables, and an indoor dining space large enough to accommodate small parties.
Cinco de Mayo [Falling Waters]
There are several nice options in the area, but my choice for the best traditional, home-cooked Mexican meal is at Cindo de Mayo in Spring Mills. While offering every Mexican dish, the menu is easy to understand and everything is delicious. It is a family owned business with several locations in the region. Best of all, while mostly employing young servers, the customer service is top notch because of hands-on management.. Mexican food is known to be sloppy – especially for takeout orders and leftovers, but the food from Cinco de Mayo transports and stores really well which is important because the portions are large enough for leftovers. The bar here is small, but the drinks are cold and refreshing. It offers a good location to catch a game with several televisions available.
Chopsticks (Martinsburg)
Asian cuisine that is easy for everyone to enjoy can be found in this understated restaurant in Martinsburg. Chopsticks has an expansive menu of sushi, rolls, soups, and salads – but the specialty at Chopsticks is the made-to-order wok bowls that make a great lunch or a filling dinner. They have some pre-arranged bowls on the menu for those lacking imagination, but for others they have meats, vegetables, sauces, and seasonings to combine together and personalize your dining experience. It is fun to get creative and find the best combination for your tastes. It is nice to dine in, but it’s almost a better experience to order takeout with the high likelihood that there will be leftovers to finish up the following day.
The Purple Iris (Martinsburg)
If an opportunity presents itself, the lunch and dinner at The Purple Iris event center is phenomenal. They are known for hosting wedding receptions, business banquets, and other worthy celebrations at The Hartwood Mansion. The Purple Iris boasts a menu that showcases a fusion of American and French-inspired dishes, but the menu is usually accommodating to the specific event, whether its hors d’oeuvres and finger foods or a five-course meal. Whatever the event, it is a great excuse to experience the food!
The Ladder House (Kearneysville)
Here’s one of the local’s secret hideaways and best restaurant in the Kearneysville area of Martinsburg. The Ladder House Bar and Grill is an all-American dive bar with great food, a large bar, and a television in every direction playing sports or current affairs. Known for their daily lunch specials and slot machines, it’s a really casual spot to enjoy a meal and a wonderful choice for homemade takeout. The restaurant is pretty large, so they can accommodate some larger parties, and at night time you can find a game of darts or billiards. Due to the gambling, this is an adults only location.
Palace Lounge (Martinsburg)
Sticking with the adults-only, all-American dive bar, The Palace Lounge has an understated appearance, but the food and hospitality are everything you want to find in Berkeley County in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. Best known for their steak night specials, “The Palace” is truly a local secret – a great spot for a business lunch, a top choice for a takeout meal, and one of the best bars to catch a West Virginia Mountaineers game. If you want an authentic taste of the area’s local cuisine then this little restaurant is your best choice, and if you think it’s your lucky day then you can drop a dollar in the slot machines and maybe find out.
Seriously, with so many great dining options in Jefferson County, it is almost impossible to narrow down to the five best restaurants – and these haven’t even touched on our Top 5 Fast Dining options that are the real secrets! It’s not a far drive to Martinsburg, Hagerstown, Winchester, or even Frederick, but there’s no reason to when the best European, Asian, and Appalachian culinary options are from restaurants right in Shepherdstown, Charles Town and Harpers Ferry. It’s a real hot spot for foodies to enjoy!
